This morning around 9am, Pip, Nisan and Annie
set off for Shoreham from a rainy London.
From Pip’s experience on Monday, it’s seems thal
the conditions for this spot are far from
accurately represented on Surfline, so we knew il
would be a bit of a shot in the dark and tried to
manage our own expectations (which Annie
failed to do having had 5 hours sleep from being
too overexcited at the prospect of a surf).
We arrived at the car park and found a wild Joss,
got changed and headed out – catching Simo
already in the water. The conditions were pretty
lumpy and disorganised but with some nice
peaks and sections available. We started close to
the harbour wall giving some protection from the
Westerly wind and ended up getting out and
walking along the beach to Hot Pipe itself where
more surfers were gathering for some bigger,
fatter and even more lumpy sets – a true
reflection of how we would feel after our post
surf fry up at the beachside caf.
As the tide came in the the waves started
dumping quite heavily on the shore, which can
make getting out quite tricky. One to be aware of
if you try this spot.
This spot is definitely a bit of a gamble, but super
convenient for a little day or even morning trip.
We’ll be back!
